Elmley Road Renewable Park
British Solar Renewables (BSR) are bringing forward a proposal for a new development on land off Lower Road, Minster on Sea, Sheerness, ME12 3SU. The proposal is for an 27MW export Solar PV array accompanied by a 35.7MW battery energy storage system (BESS). The project will be an important component of local renewable energy infrastructure, contributing positively to the security of energy supply within Kent. The scheme would help reinforce the national grid by supplying electricity to the local network at times of peak energy demand.
Why do we need Solar Parks?
Given the current cost of living crisis, which includes soaring energy prices and concerns around energy security, providing locally sourced clean, green, and reliable energy production is more vital than ever. To meet this target and to address the climate emergency, the shift away from polluting fossil fuel sources towards green energy production is needed urgently.
Solar power is the lowest cost and quickest to deploy of all energy sources. It is currently approximately one-ninth the cost of gas and less than one third of the cost of nuclear. Solar power is a core part of the Governments’ Net Zero target, and it intends to more than triple solar power capacity by 2030. Achieving this objective requires the deployment of larger scale solar farms as well as on the rooftops of industrial and residential buildings. This proposal will support Swale Borough Council's declaration of a Climate and Ecological Emergency in June 2019 by contributing to the urgent need for green energy production.
BSR is committed to speaking with the community at the earliest possible opportunity, to allow us to fully consider the feedback received from those that know the area best. Who are British Solar Renewables?
British Solar Renewables (BSR) is a leading renewable energy developer and provider of expert services to the renewable energy industry. We are dedicated to reducing carbon emissions and transitioning towards renewable energy sources.
The company was founded in 2010, from then it has grown into one of the largest integrated developers in the UK and has developed and built in excess of 700MWp across 60 parks.
BSR develop, build, own and operate our projects so we will be involved throughout the lifetime of the project, up to and including decommissioning.
Nature Protection Pledge
Our Nature Protection Pledge reflects our dedication to considering nature in everything we do. We are taking positive action for the planet and the communities in which we operate. By increasing biodiversity and supporting healthy ecosystems on the land under our stewardship, we’re making a real impact. Our multi-functional land use approach combines clean energy generation, agricultural support, and nature enhancement.
These commitments include achieving a proposed combined 60% biodiversity net gain (“BNG”) for each solar project submitted to planning, calculated based on habitat units, hedgerow units and river units. This means managing land sensitively, enhancing habitats such as ponds and hedgerows, creating wildlife corridors, protecting ancient trees, using native species, supporting pollinators, installing bird and bat boxes, monitoring biodiversity, and collaborating with local conservation groups to go beyond planning requirements wherever possible.
